About Us

Pat Pearson

Pat Pearson attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She began her training in piano tuning in 1981 at the Tremper School of Piano Technology in Chicago.

Pat built a large clientele of loyal customers in the Northwest suburbs where she lived at the time. Her sharp mind and intellect took on the challenge of her career when she purchased the tuning business from a colleague who moved out of state. Most of these customers owned Yamaha Disklaviers --a computerized player piano-- and she quickly mastered servicing these complex instruments. It was through this association that she met her husband, Steve, who was her service consultant on Disklavier problems at Yamaha.

Pat brings her meticulous attention to detail to everything she does and she is especially adept at action and key work.

Pat lives in Crete with her husband, Steve, and their dogs Winston and Penny.

Steve Pearson

Trained in viola performance and choral conducting at California State University, Long Beach, Steve Pearson decided to become a piano technician after a disappointing year teaching high school music. Steve apprenticed with a piano tuner from California State Long Beach for two years, while tuning for the local piano dealer. He appreciated the need for both mechanical aptitude and musical ability piano technology required. Steve joined the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) in 1978 and attained craftsman level at that time.

Pearson worked in Southern California tuning for professional teachers, performers, and several orchestras, including the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra as concert technician from 1985 to 1996, tuning for some of the world’s great pianists. From 1996 to 1999, he was technical consultant for Yamaha Corporation in Buena Park, California. He met his wife, Pat at a PTG convention in Providence, RI in 1998 and moved to Crete in 1999. He served as Director of Technical Services for Chicagoland’s Steinway dealer from 1999 to 2003—traveling to New York for extensive training at the Steinway factory.

In May 2004 Steve and Pat opened Pearson’s Piano Shop. Pearson also plays viola in the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Most recently, in February 2008, Steve traveled to Bayreuth, Germany, where he spent a week at the Steingraeber factory, working, observing and absorbing the meticulous craftsmanship and fanatical attention to detail that results in the most remarkable pianos in the world.

Steve lives in Crete with his wife, Pat, and their dogs Winston and Penny.
